As a recent college graduate that has often contemplated different career paths, getting the opportunity to sit down with an ex porn star and interview was probably one of the most interesting and unique experiences I have ever had as a writer. It was a girl whom I was friendly with in high school but she had graduated a few years after I did. I met with her with an open mind and a most curious disposition.
Her legal name is Amanda Lynn and she was born in Jersey City, New Jersey but raised in Miami, Florida. Amanda’s Mom had her at the age of 14, which would consequently have a significant impact on the rest of her (Amanda’s) life. Her Father was never around in her life which she also credits to be one of the reasons that she became involved in the porn industry. But her main reason for getting involved was the one that I most certainly did not expect.
“My Mom has Lupus and she was really, really sick. I saw her struggling with bills and not being able to receive the proper care that she needed. I knew that I had to do something”. Amanda decided to take a leap into a world she knew nothing about; nude modeling. She sent her photos to Hustler magazine who then forwarded them to Bang Bros.
“I didn’t believe them. I didn’t think that this could be real..I called bullshit on them. But they proved me wrong. They sent me copies of contracts and all sorts of legal agreements in regards to doing movies for them.” After realizing that this business proposal was actually legit, she decided to go on a whim and not tell anybody. Traveling to Florida as Amanda Lynn, she would return in just 2 weeks as “Jordana Heat”.
When I asked her where her name came from, she said it was simple. “I knew I wanted to have a name that nobody else had. I wanted something that stood apart from the regular names that were out there. I wanted people to know who Jordana Heat was. I am huge fan of the entire Fast & Furious series and my favorite character is Jordana. I also love basketball and my favorite team is Miami Heat. Instantly I knew- Jordana Heat was perfect.”
Partially for interview purposes and partially for my own curiosity, I asked her how much she made the first time she got involved. She told me that after only 2 weeks in Florida, she returned home with $30,000 in cash. She said the money was unreal but it meant the world to her that she was able to finally help take care of her Mother. “My Mom is my everything” she said with the most sincere tone in her voice. She talked about how at first her Mother did not know but eventually found out. “She was really upset at first, but eventually she got over it and has learned to accept me for who I am”.
Perhaps the most heart wrenching part of Amanda’s story was when she talked about the backlash she received from her fellow classmates when her movie went public. “My tires were slashed, I was receiving death threats on a regular basis, girls constantly wanted to fight me at parties.. all because I used to do porn. It wasn’t like I was going around stealing anybody’s boyfriend. It was a decision I made for myself that I honestly did not believe was going to affect me so tremendously”. Considering that Amanda and I are from the same small, suburban New Jersey town it really seemed outrageous to hear all the terrible things that had happened to her just because she decided to make an adult film.
Returning to present time, I was interested to learn what her next career move was. She was very adamant about the fact that more than anything “porn has ruined my love life.. I will forever be a playmate”. As somebody who is as far removed from the adult film industry as could be, I would imagine that for some guys that would be their dream. Amanda admitted that she has most certainly received more attention since her movies, but that not all of it is wanted. She openly admits to dealing with social anxiety due to the torment and turmoil she experienced when her movies became public.
While struggling with her anxiety and trying to still maintain a social life, Amanda is currently studying to become a Veterinary Technician. Once she completes the program, she will move on to Animal Behavior College (which could potentially take up to 10 years for her to complete the courses of study that she wants to pursue). She also has big dreams of one day becoming a movie star.. regular Hollywood films, that is. Amanda also notes that she has built up a fan base that is compiled of all different types of people but she “loves them all”.

Despite heavy criticism from Amy Winehouse’s family, the documentary Amy is set to premiere this summer. The first official clip from the film has surfaced, and it makes good on the promise that Amy will boast plenty of intimate, never-before-seen footage along with new interviews from many of the late singer’s friends and associates.
In the clip, we see footage of Winehouse fooling around with a video camera (“I look like a floating head, I’ve got no hair, I’m just on a black screen”) while her former manager Nick Schmansky talks about recording the singer’s first demos. For those early tracks, Winehouse converted some of her poems into song lyrics, which we see handwritten by the singer on yellow lined paper with hearts drawn in the margins. “When I’m in / the deepest funk / she cheers me with / a little Monk,” Winehouse wrote at the time.
Winehouse’s family recently revealed that they have “disassociated themselves from the forthcoming film” because the documentary does “a disservice to individuals and families suffering from the complicated affliction of addiction.” The singer’s father, Mitch Winehouse, was also upset that filmmakers interviewed Winehouse’s ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil, who in the film, blames Mitch for Amy’s addictions.
“We came on board with the full backing of the Winehouse family, and we approached the project with total objectivity,” a documentary spokesperson said in a statement defending the film. “We conducted in the region of 100 interviews with people that knew Amy. The story that the film tells is a reflection of our findings from these interviews.” Mitch Winehouse, who called the film “horrible” and director Asif Kapadia a “disgrace,” has hinted he may pursue legal action after the film premieres this July.
NY-based photographer Shinichi Maruyama created these lovely photographs using nearly 10,000 individual photographs of a nude dancer in motion. The abstract images remind me of Japanese ink wash painting, as if the figures were created by the stroke of a thick brush, which is not unsurprising considering Maruyama’s previous work with water sculptures. Of the photos Shin says:
I tried to capture the beauty of both the human body’s figure and its motion. The figure in the image, which is formed into something similar to a sculpture, is created by combining 10,000 individual photographs of a dancer. By putting together uninterrupted individual moments, the resulting image as a whole will appear to be something different from what actually exists. With regard to these two viewpoints, a connection can be made to a human being’s perception of presence in life.

It’s a trap. The Playboy-produced vid serves as an amusing parody of the various ridiculous sexy takes on character costumes doing the rounds, but it is also an excuse to shoot the lovely Sara Jean Underwood wearing very little. Those sneaky Nerf-herders. To be fair, some of the costumes actually look pretty cool, but sexy Bib Fortuna may haunt your nightmares for some time.

Action movies have been storming the box office since almost the beginning of cinema, and iconic characters have been born from countless movies, and subsequent franchises. Rating the top 10 action heroes is something any movie goer could probably do off the tops of their heads, but unfortunately female heroines have fewer spots in cinema history. This being the case, we thought we’d have a go at the top 10 (of many) female movie icons. Our honorable mention is Neytiri of ‘Avatar’. James Cameron’s most successful motion picture may be about the dopey human male who gets all of the native Na’Vi killed on the planet Pandora, but we all know that Neytiri is the real hero here. She’s the warrior who always stood by her principles, and as played by Zoe Saldana (with the aid of an army of animators), she embodied a unique new action hero for the modern age. The following list is IN an order, however, if you think the order should be moved around, feel free to comment, and let us know.
Of the two female-driven, utterly superficial action movie franchises, Resident Evil has the most personality. (Sorry, Underworld fans.) Milla Jovovich has been bounding from one ridiculous, zombie-fighting, clone-army forming situation to the next over the course of this ludicrous series, and it only gets sillier – and more entertaining – with every passing sequel. She still embodies unadulterated bad-assery in every film.
Foxy Brown’s boyfriend was a secret agent, but when he’s killed in the line of duty she goes on a one-woman mission of revenge against a vile syndicate, destroying sex traffickers and rescuing their victims. Pam Grier is described as “a whole lotta woman,” and the description fits. She is raw and powerful and is an exemplary vision of what strong, driven (black) female heroines can look like.
Although the Mad Max film is ostensibly about a male action hero, but that gets completely stolen by his female co-star. Mad Max is pretty much just along for the ride in Fury Road, while Charlize Theron’s Imperator Furiosa kidnaps a warlord’s sex slaves and fights off horde after horde of high-octane bastards in her quest to find freedom. Theron explodes off the screen, and so does practically everything else in George Miller’s acclaimed post-apocalyptic thriller.
Over the course of the two Kill Bill movies, Uma Thurman takes us on a rich and complicated journey of self-actualization, tragic love and violent vengeance. She’s a thoroughly convincing fighter who dispatches an army of masked assassins, but when the time comes to confront the man who wronged her, she can still feel recognizably human emotions. Quentin Tarantino’s films are vast in scope and intimate in nature, and Thurman gives arguably her best performance within them.
Jennifer Lawrence is building up her action movie credentials (see also: X-Men: First Class and Days of Future Past), but she will always be a legend for playing the reluctant revolutionary Katniss Everdeen in the blockbuster Hunger Games series. She’s comfortable with a bow, uncomfortable with killing, and increasingly confident leading the disenfranchised to war against an apathetic ruling class. Plus she’s a beast with the bow and arrow.
It was a miracle that Ellen Ripley even survived the first Alien movie. In James Cameron’s sequel, she finally fought back, taking the fight directly to the Alien queen and setting the stage for two more sequels in which she refused to be victimized ever again. Sigourney Weaver remains one of the great action hero icons, regardless of gender.
Sarah Connor was running from danger throughout the first Terminator movie, and runs right into it in the blockbuster sequel to save her son from yet another killer automaton bent on bringing about the apocalypse. Linda Hamilton convincingly makes the transition from victim to hero, but James Cameron’s film wisely dedicates time to illustrating the unthinkable psychological toll the events of these movies have had on a woman who, prior to these events, as just as normal as you or I. This is why we specified ‘Terminator 2’ because although she may be a regular 19 year old (Yeah… in the first one for some reason she’s 19 in the script), in the sequel she is a trained military machine, capable of flying off the rails to do whatever is necessary to save her son, and the future.

From sneakers to skulls, Antoni Tudisco incredible portrait work inspires fascination to any viewer.
The Turtles have been popping back up in popularity since the 2000’s, and aside from new video games, and comic crossovers, their movies are extremely well known. (Well known and well liked are two different things), but weather you knew it or not, the Leo, Mikey, Don, and Raph were destined for a comeback. The stakes seem quite a bit higher, as New York appears to be invaded by someone (#BringDatKrang) and there’s also the arrival of Casey Jones. It may be quite early to tell, but this will probably be a much better film than the original.
X-Men Apocalypse (oddly enough) was announced before its predecessor (X-Men: Days Of Future Past) was even released. That being the case, the hype surrounding this film has been palpable, and now we know it’s for good reason. The (young) X-Men squaring off with the most feared advisory in their universe seems like a good idea on paper, but seeing some of it come to life is downright exciting. Check the method below.
